A Seattle man with a long criminal record has been charged with first-degree organized retail theft after allegedly stealing more than $5,700 worth of merchandise from the Sunglass Hut at Southcenter Mall over two separate incidents last summer.
Prosecutors say Hussein Omar Ali, 28, entered the Tukwila store on June 26, 2024, and stole six pairs of sunglasses valued at $2,738. Two days later, on June 28, he allegedly returned, grabbed more sunglasses, and fled. That second theft amounted to $3,010, bringing the total loss to $5,748.
King County prosecutors filed charges on April 1 and requested $50,000 bail, citing Ali’s “extensive history of failing to appear in court and committing new crimes while on release.”
“This behavior and the defendant’s history of failing to appear for court lead the State to believe bail is necessary in this case,” Prosecutors wrote in the charging documents.
Ali’s criminal record spans more than a decade and includes multiple burglary, robbery, theft, and obstruction convictions. Prosecutors said he currently faces at least seven other pending felony cases, including multiple counts of organized retail theft, robbery, firearm possession, and DUI.
In addition to bail, prosecutors requested that Ali have no contact with any Sunglass Hut in King County and comply with standard release conditions, including attending all court hearings and committing no new offenses.
Court documents also revealed Ali has had 58 warrants issued for his arrest in Washington courts since 2013.
