A ceremony for local student Artists was held at Monday night’s (May 8, 2023) Tukwila City Council meeting, and according to attendants, it was a “masterpiece.”

Winners from the 2023 Waste Management and City of Tukwila Earth Day Art Contest received a certificate of achievement from Mayor Allan Ekberg.

Many students brought their family and friends, and even some of their teachers who encouraged them to participate in the contest!

Elementary Category:

  • Winning Teacher: Stephanie Motsch, Cascade View Elementary School
  • 1st place: Sameera Bista 3rd grade, Title: “Don’t Use Plastic Bottles”
  • 2nd place: Dmitry Korolev 1st grade, Title: “Let’s Keep Our Oceans Clean”
  • 3rd place tie: Ella Chesak and Mason Deming 4th grade, Title: Recycling is Winning”
  • 3rd place tie: Kim Chi Nguyen 3rd grade, Title: “Recycling Bulletin Board”

Middle and High School Category:

  • 1st place: Jennifer Kim Ly 11th grade, Title: “Save a Bag, Save a Planet”
  • 2nd place: Jwan Magsoosi 9th grade, Title: “Do Your Part”
  • 3rd place tie: Yomna Abou Shameh 7th grade, Title: “Recycling Community”
  • 3rd place tie: Zoe Sagmoen 10th grade, Title: “Bleu Upcycling”
