Tukwila Police reported a series of arrests over the past few weeks involving alleged domestic violence, protection order violations and impaired driving, including a man accused of driving while intoxicated with his 4-year-old daughter in the vehicle.
The department’s update also described a hotel arrest in which officers used a police dog after responding to a 911 call from someone who could be heard saying they were being choked.
“We continue to see protection order and domestic violence related incidents as well as DUI related incidents,” the department wrote.
Impaired driving arrest involved child
Officers responded to a report of an apparently intoxicated man in the 400 block of Tukwila Parkway, where they found him with his 4-year-old daughter, according to police.
Employees told officers the man had driven to the location, and surveillance footage corroborated their account, the department said. Police reported that he fell asleep in the parked vehicle for more than an hour while the child climbed around inside and tried to climb out a window.
The man was arrested on suspicion of DUI and reckless endangerment and booked into jail, police said.
In another impaired driving investigation, an officer stopped a vehicle near West Valley Highway and Longacres Way after observing multiple traffic violations. Police said the vehicle had two blown tires on its passenger side and damage to its front end.
The driver showed signs of impairment and declined field sobriety testing, according to the department. Officers obtained a warrant for a blood draw, took the driver to a hospital and then booked the driver into jail.
Protection order investigations
In the hotel incident, dispatchers received an open 911 call without a location but could hear someone saying they were being choked by a man, police said. Dispatchers narrowed the location, and officers traced the call to a hotel in the 15600 block of West Valley Highway.
Officers found the person who reported the assault outside and determined there was probable cause to arrest a man for domestic violence assault. They also confirmed a no contact order between the two people, according to the department.
Police said the man refused to leave the hotel room. Officers forced entry and used a police dog to help take him into custody after he continued to refuse commands. He was taken to a hospital following the use of the dog, then booked into jail on suspicion of a felony protection order violation.
In a separate domestic violence investigation at a hotel in the same block, officers arrested a woman who had left before they arrived. She was located at the reported victim’s residence in Burien and booked into jail on suspicion of assault, police said.
Other protection order arrests included a man found at an apartment complex in the 3400 block of South 144th Street and another located near an apartment complex in the 3500 block of South 46th Street, according to the update.
Police also reported arresting a man found at a relative’s residence in violation of a protection order. During the arrest, he allegedly tried to grab an officer’s holstered firearm. He was booked for the alleged order violation and resisting arrest, the department said.
Theft and warrant arrests
A vehicle theft investigation led officers to two suspects after the owner reported that stolen AirPods were transmitting their location near South 144th Street and 42nd Avenue South, police said.
Officers found the suspects in the 4300 block of South 142nd Street. One had a backpack the owner identified as stolen, along with other belongings, according to the department. Both suspects had active warrants and were booked into jail.
In another incident, police arrested a woman suspected of shoplifting from a department store with her 14-year-old daughter. Officers stopped their vehicle nearby, booked the mother into jail and released the daughter to relatives. The vehicle was impounded pending a search warrant to recover merchandise, police said.
Officers also recovered a stolen vehicle at an apartment complex in the 3400 block of South 160th Street. The driver was arrested on an outstanding Kitsap County warrant related to bomb threats, according to the department.
Other warrant arrests included a man who arrived at the Tukwila Justice Center to collect property held in evidence, a man contacted near light rail stairs, a woman accused of causing disturbances at businesses along Tukwila International Boulevard and a man contacted during a shoplifting investigation on Andover Park West.
The update also described an arrest for alleged methamphetamine possession on Tukwila International Boulevard, an e-bike rider arrested after allegedly refusing to stop for an officer and a man booked for trespassing and attempted assault after an encounter with security in the 100 block of Andover Park West.
The department’s account describes arrests and police allegations. It does not provide court dispositions for the incidents.
