Renton Police are asking for the public’s help identifying a man suspected of sexually assaulting a jogger Saturday morning on the Longacres walking trail near the border of Tukwila.
Officers responded at 9:24 a.m. Sept. 12 to the reported assault in the 1900 block of Oakesdale Ave SW (map below), according to police. Police said a passerby intervened and stopped the assault.
The suspect was described as a Black man wearing glasses and a bright purple hoodie with ears attached to the hood. Police said he was believed to have been riding a bicycle but fled on foot after the assault.
Investigators are focusing on the suspect’s distinctive clothing and are seeking witnesses or dash camera footage from several locations near the trail.

Police said the suspect was seen at bus shelters in the 2700 block of Naches Ave SW between 7:30 and 9 a.m. He was later seen walking near the 1900 block of Raymond Ave SW between 9:25 and 9:30 a.m.
Anyone who was in those areas during the specified times and saw the suspect may have information that could help detectives, police said.
The suspect had not been identified as of the department’s public appeal. Police encouraged community members to remain aware of their surroundings and report suspicious activity.
