Police are asking for tips and home surveillance video after a black Jeep Grand Cherokee fled a traffic stop and was later found abandoned near South 146th Street, according to the Tukwila Police Department.
Police said Officer Nunez spotted the Jeep being driven extremely recklessly Monday night, Aug. 24 near South 146th Street and 42nd Ave South. When the officer tried to stop the vehicle, it fled east on South 146th Street at a high rate of speed.
Residents reported the Jeep nearly hit a parked car and came close to losing control near a cul-de-sac before turning around, police said. Officer Nunez later deployed a tire deflation device as the vehicle passed him.
Officers tracked the Jeep west and found it unoccupied near 16th Ave South and South 146th Street (map below), according to police. A perimeter was set up after witnesses reported seeing two males run from the vehicle.
Police said officers located a male matching the description of one of the occupants. The person told officers he had been out for “a late-night jog through sticker bushes,” according to police. He was identified, and the Jeep was impounded as evidence.
