A robbery suspect accused of taking a victim’s car keys at knifepoint in Tukwila was arrested after a police pursuit ended with a PIT maneuver, according to the Tukwila Police Department.
Officers responded Saturday night, July 25 to a reported robbery in the 14800 block of Interurban Avenue South. The victim told police that a man brandished a knife and took his car keys at knifepoint, police said.
As officers arrived, Officer Barlett saw the victim’s stolen vehicle leaving the parking lot, according to police. Barlett attempted to stop the vehicle, but the driver fled south on Interurban Avenue South.
Police said a pursuit was authorized because of the nature of the reported crime. Barlett performed a PIT maneuver and disabled the vehicle in the 18300 block of Interurban Avenue South (map below).
The driver refused commands and began reaching around inside the vehicle, police said. Because officers believed the suspect was still armed with a knife and was reaching for something out of sight, K9 Raider was deployed and engaged the suspect.
The suspect was taken into custody. After he was identified, police determined he had an active felony weapons violation warrant issued by the U.S. Marshals Service.
Police said the suspect was booked into jail.
The vehicle was impounded pending a search warrant for evidence.
