A motorcyclist was injured Friday afternoon, July 10 in a five-vehicle collision on southbound I-5 near Southcenter in Tukwila after a driver crossed the gore point while entering the freeway, according to the Washington State Patrol (WSP).  

The collision occurred at about 4:49 p.m. just south of Southcenter near the Klickitat Way on-ramp (map below).

The injured motorcyclist was transported to Harborview Medical Center.

No fatalities were reported, and the Washington State Patrol said drugs and alcohol were not factors in the crash.

WSP identified the cause of the collision as reckless driving involving a vehicle crossing the gore point while entering southbound I-5. The roadway was blocked for 1 hour and 22 minutes as troopers investigated the scene and crews cleared the wreckage.

The crash involved three passenger vehicles, one pickup truck and one motorcycle. The motorcycle was totaled, according to the State Patrol.

How the Collision Happened

  • A motorcycle was traveling southbound on I-5 near the gore point just south of Southcenter.
  • A vehicle entering southbound I-5 from the Klickitat Way ramp crossed the gore point.
  • That vehicle struck the motorcycle.
  • The motorcycle then collided with two other vehicles traveling on the freeway.
  • A fifth vehicle struck the rider after the initial collisions.
  • The roadway remained blocked for 1 hour and 22 minutes while the scene was cleared.
