Residents of Tukwila can now sign up to receive up to two free trees through the city’s annual Tree Giveaway program.

According to the City of Tukwila, applications are open through Sept. 15 for residents and businesses interested in planting trees on private property within city limits. Trees are available on a first come, first served basis, with species selection dependent on availability.

Applicants are encouraged to review the available tree species before placing an order and ensure they have adequate space for the trees to reach maturity. The city said trees must be planted on private property located within Tukwila.

The city will confirm tree selections and provide planting instructions in late September.

Tree pickup is scheduled for Saturday, Oct. 10, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Hazelnut Park. City staff will be available to provide guidance on proper planting and tree care. Participants are responsible for transporting their trees home.

According to the city, the trees will be approximately 3 to 7 feet tall.

Those with questions can contact City Arborist Heidi Watters at Heidi.Watters@TukwilaWA.gov or (206) 839-6483.
