Residents in Tukwila will have a chance to donate blood at a city hosted drive on Thursday, April 30, with appointments available from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. in the Council Chamber at City Hall (map below).
The event is organized in partnership with Bloodworks Northwest, which supplies blood to hospitals across the Puget Sound region.
Bloodworks Northwest emphasized the critical role donors play in supporting transplant patients, noting that more than 49,000 transplants were performed in the United States last year. An organ transplant may require up to 40 units of red blood cells, 30 units of platelets and 25 units of plasma.
“As a blood donor, you make organ transplantation possible and provide patients with another renewed chance at a healthy life,” Bloodworks Northwest said in a statement. “Donating blood takes about an hour and is urgently needed.”
Donors are encouraged to schedule an appointment in advance through the Bloodworks Northwest website:
