A new international grocery store in Tukwila is adding to South King County’s growing reputation as a destination for global cuisine and specialty foods.
Asian Family Market recently opened in Tukwila, joining a wide range of international markets across the Seattle Southside region, according to Explore Seattle Southside. The addition further expands access to imported ingredients and culturally specific foods for residents in cities including Tukwila, SeaTac, Burien, Des Moines, Kent, Auburn, White Center and Normandy Park.
“Tukwila is a diverse, fast-growing community with strong cultural connections, and we see an opportunity to serve both everyday needs and specialty items that are often hard to find elsewhere,” said Maddox Cheung, General Manager, Asian Family Market Tukwila.”At the same time, our partnership with Vori allows us to operate more efficiently behind the scenes—from real-time inventory management to faster checkout and better pricing affordbly —so we can focus on what matters most: freshness, variety, and customer experience.” –
Explore Seattle Southside highlighted the region’s diverse food scene in a recent guide, encouraging residents to “take yourself on a tour of the world’s flavors” through local markets and grocery stores.
Many of the markets serve not only as retail spaces but also as cultural hubs, often connected to restaurants or food courts that showcase traditional dishes. For example, Tawakal Halal Market in Tukwila is connected to a Somali restaurant, while Lam’s Seafood Market includes a large food court offering a variety of Asian cuisines.
The guide notes that these markets offer shoppers access to ingredients and prepared foods from around the world, including East African, Middle Eastern and Asian specialties, reflecting the diversity of South King County communities.
In addition to groceries, many locations provide ready to eat meals, baked goods and specialty items that are not typically found in conventional supermarkets, making them popular destinations for both everyday shopping and culinary exploration.
The continued growth of international markets in the area highlights the region’s multicultural identity and provides residents with opportunities to experience global flavors without leaving South King County.
