Drivers near Codiga Park will soon notice a new addition aimed at increasing safety in a problematic stretch of roadway: automated speed enforcement cameras will go live on June 1, 2025 in the 12500 block of 50th Place South, the Tukwila Police Department announced.
The cameras, positioned near the base of the 129th Street bridge over I-5, are being installed in response to ongoing concerns from residents about speeding vehicles and visibility issues caused by a blind curve.
Locals have reported difficulty safely exiting their driveways due to the high-speed traffic in the area.
“This area has been a repeat concern for residents who have a hard time getting out of their driveways due to the blind curve and vehicles traveling at excessive speed,” the department said in a statement.
Warning signs and flashing lights have been installed to alert motorists about the new enforcement measures.
For the first 30 days after activation, violations captured by the cameras will result in warning letters being mailed to vehicle owners. After that, drivers exceeding the speed limit will receive a $145 citation.
According to the Tukwila Police Department, the fines will be processed through Tukwila Municipal Court and may be paid by mail, phone, or in person. These citations are treated as civil infractions—similar to parking tickets—and will not impact the driver’s insurance or record.
