A wanted felon was taken into custody Thursday afternoon, April 17, 2025, after attempting to evade Tukwila Police by fleeing into the Green River near I-405, prompting a large multi-agency response.

According to police, officers contacted the suspect — a transient male from Tacoma — around 2:15 p.m. The man had an active warrant related to a felony second-degree assault charge and fled on foot before entering the river.

Officers threw flotation devices to the suspect, but he pushed them away and drifted toward the riverbank. After climbing into thick vegetation, he was safely removed using a fire department ladder and arrested without incident.

“Substantial resources were utilized to get the suspect into custody,” Tukwila Police said in a statement, noting assistance from a drone unit, King County Guardian One helicopter, fire department crews, and a KCSO K9 team.

The suspect was booked on the outstanding warrant and additional charges may be forthcoming.
