Tukwila Police say they prevented what they say was likely a planned shooting and recovered a stolen handgun after a show of force dispersed a crowd of suspected gang members on Friday, April 11, 2025.

Officers assigned to the 13000 block of Interurban Avenue South (map below) noticed a gathering of known gang associates and, after overhearing “a discussion about a shooting that was about to go down,” summoned backup.

As additional units arrived, the crowd thinned and the threatened violence never materialized. Investigators later recovered a discarded, stolen firearm from the parking lot, which was impounded for evidence.

“With the presence of additional officers, the crowd began to slowly disburse and leave as it was apparent that whatever was about to happen was no longer going to happen,” police said in a statement.
