A man suspected of firing multiple shots at another vehicle during a dispute in Tukwila was arrested Thursday night after a crash in Renton, authorities said.
Tukwila Police officers responded to reports of gunfire around 7 p.m. on Sperry Drive, where an individual allegedly fired several rounds at another vehicle before both the suspect and victim fled the scene.
As officers investigated, Renton police reported a collision at Grady Way and Rainier Avenue South involving vehicles that matched the descriptions from the shooting. Several occupants were detained, and Tukwila officers quickly responded.
Investigators determined that the incident stemmed from a botched transaction in which the victim was attempting to sell an item to the suspect. When the buyer suspected the item was counterfeit, a fight broke out. A passenger in the buyer’s vehicle then exited and fired multiple shots before fleeing.
““The irony here is that both the item for sale and the currency the buyer arrived with to pay for the item were found to be counterfeit,” Tukwila Police said.
The suspected shooter was arrested and booked into King County Jail on a first-degree assault charge.
The case has been forwarded to the Major Crimes Unit for further investigation.
“A special thank you to Renton PD for their rapid response and assistance with this situation,” Tukwila Police said.
