Four lanes of southbound I-5 in Tukwila will close overnight beginning this Friday, March 15, near Southcenter to replace damaged concrete.
The freeway will be reduced to one lane at 11 p.m. Friday from I-405 to South 178th Street, with all lanes reopening by 6 a.m. Saturday, March 16. In addition, the westbound State Route 518 and southbound I-405 ramps to southbound I-5 will close. The lane reductions and ramp closures will begin at about 9 p.m.
During the lane reduction, contractor crews working for the Washington State Department of Transportation will replace concrete panels that broke following heavy rains in December 2023. Once all the panels are in place, the crews will need one more night, still to be scheduled, to cut panels and seal the joints.
