The US Postal Service (USPS) announced this week that is proposing to move the Tukwila Post Office – currently at 225 Andover Park W. – to a new site at 1233 Andover Park E. (map below).

The new location is than two miles from the current Post Office.

USPS says the landlord who owns the property where the Tukwila Post Office is currently located is not renewing the Postal Service’s lease. A postcard was sent to the community for input and public comment in June 2021. Comments were reviewed and the decision to move the Post Office is moving forward.

“Many comments were made about high traffic causing difficulties getting to the current Post Office and there were also concerns expressed about relocating too far away from the current location,” USPS said in a statement. “The new, proposed site is less than two miles from the current office and the traffic congestion issue should improve as well.”

The Postal Service said that it anticipates providing the same services at the new location as are currently provided to customers at the existing location. Additionally, the Postal Service plans to continue services at the existing Post Office until the replacement facility is open and operational.

While the Postal Service is sensitive to the impact of this decision on its customers and the Tukwila community, community input was properly considered, and the decision is consistent with Postal Service objectives.

“Improving our facilities is just one part of the Postal Service’s larger 10-year Delivering for America plan to achieve financial stability and service excellence.”
