Tukwila residents can apply to receive free trees through tree giveaway

Tukwila residents can apply to receive free trees through a new tree giveaway, a pilot program aimed at growing our urban forest.

Tukwila has been a Tree City USA for 20 years, and says “we know trees are an important part of a healthy city. Thank you for your support in helping add tree canopy to our city!”

HOW TO GET FREE TREE(S)

1. CHOOSE YOUR PLANTING LOCATION AND SELECT A TREE SUITED FOR THE SPACE.
Use the 2022 Tree Guide to find a tree that suits your space. Select tree species with plenty of room to grow to maturity at your planting location.

Trees must be planted on private property in Tukwila.

Ensure planting location has adequate spacing from underground and overhead utilities such as water and sewer lines and backyard power lines. We recommend you call 811, the free service to help you locate utilities before you dig to avoid hitting any utility lines when planting your tree.

2. COMPLETE AND SUBMIT AN ONLINE APPLICATION BY OCT. 31, 2022 – CLICK HERE FOR THE APPLICATION
The application is open through Oct. 31, 2022. We will confirm your tree(s) and send information on how to plant them on November 1st.

3. PICK UP YOUR TREE AT GREEN TUKWILA DAY ON NOV. 19, 2022.
You will pick up your tree(s) on Saturday, November 19th at the Duwamish Hill Preserve for Green Tukwila Day between 11 am-2 pm. Want first pick? Join the Green Tukwila Day event, CLICK HERE.

We have limited availability to deliver trees the week after November 19th. If you are not able to pick up a tree on November 19th, please indicate on the application form.

There will be staff on-site to walk through how to plant and care for your tree.

You will be responsible for bringing your 5-gallon tree home. Trees will be about 6 feet tall.

4. PLANT YOUR TREE!
Follow the instructions in the planting guide. Be sure to water your tree after it’s in the ground! We will follow up after trees are distributed, requesting photos and providing tree care guidance.

ONLINE APPLICATION
The application will be open from October 1-31. We will contact all applicants once all applications have been reviewed and processed.
