A new weekly gathering in Tukwila will invite neighbors to meet, share ideas, practice English and make friends beginning this Sunday, Sept. 27.
Caboose Capitalism will host its free gatherings at 11 a.m. Sundays in the upper level food court at Westfield Southcenter.
The woman-led, ad-free community project is based in Tukwila and describes its central idea as putting “human connection above all else.”
The project was founded by Ellei Lotus, a local home inspector who said the gatherings are intended to give neighbors a welcoming place to connect.
“The caboose is where the celebration is,” Lotus said, sharing the project’s motto.
The org’s website says:
“I started Caboose Capitalism as an archive — a place to upload my personal memories, thoughts, questions, grief, and need for connection with other human beings around the earth during this late stage capitalism disease.
“One of my seventh grade teachers told us that individuals can and do make a difference. I have never stopped believing that — not even when society shoved me down and told me I was undeserving of anything. Well. I am here to tell the world that is absolutely not true.
“Ellei founded Caboose Capitalism in Tukwila, Washington, and soft-launched it on August 25, 2026.
“Pull up a chair, neighbor.”👋🤠
Coffee and tea donated by Starbucks will be available. Organizers also plan to bring bubble guns.
Visitors can find the group by looking for Lotus, who will be wearing a red cowboy hat and waving.
