A man experiencing an apparent mental health crisis was taken to a hospital for an involuntary evaluation after officers detained him near an elementary school on Tukwila International Boulevard, according to Tukwila Police.
Officer Hernandez saw the unclothed man walking north and behaving erratically around 2:30 p.m., police said.
Police said that numerous children were walking in the area after school had let out.
Officers detained the man without incident as he approached South 148th Street, then requested firefighters and an aid car. An officer retrieved a tarp to cover him while they waited to move him to an ambulance gurney.
Police said the man then became combative, resisted restraints and spat on a patrol sergeant. He was ultimately transported to a hospital for a mental health evaluation.
The department said officers had previously encountered the man during a suspected theft incident. In that encounter, police said, he also behaved erratically, was involuntarily committed and was arrested by citation.
