Tukwila Police arrested a 57-year-old man wanted on a Department of Corrections (DOC) escape warrant tied to a first degree murder conviction during a check of a transient encampment in Tukwila this week.

The arrest occurred while Officer Wright, a recently-hired lateral officer with the department, was conducting field training, police said.

Police said that Wright located the man while checking a transient encampment and discovered he had an active DOC escape warrant related to a conviction for first degree murder.

Police said Department of Corrections escape warrants are typically issued when someone fails to comply with conditions of release from prison or fails to check in with supervision authorities as required.

Authorities took the man into custody without further details immediately released.
