Tukwila residents can recycle mattresses and box springs for free on Saturday, Oct. 11, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Tukwila Community Center (map below), the city announced.

Items must be dry and free of bed bugs, and there is a limit of four units per vehicle.

According to the City of Tukwila, the recycling drop off event will also include a same day collection of arts and crafts supplies for creative reuse by Seattle ReCreative.

Accepted donations include clean fabric larger than a quarter yard and notions, yarn and knitting or crochet tools, general supplies such as scissors, glue guns, pipe cleaners, pom poms, markers and crayons, and fine art materials such as acrylic, watercolor and oil paints, brushes, pastels, pencils, printmaking supplies, paper and canvas.

The city notes that scraps, curtains, clothing and linens are not accepted.

For details, residents can email recycle@TukwilaWA.gov or call 206-431-2445.

The city credits support from the Washington State Department of Ecology and the King County Solid Waste Division for helping make the event possible.
