A driver was arrested early Monday morning, Mar. 2, after a crash on northbound I-5 at the ramp to SR 599 left another driver with serious injuries, according to the Washington State Patrol (WSP).
Troopers responded to the collision at about 2:30 a.m. on the northbound I-5 ramp to SR 599.
The second driver involved in the crash sustained serious injuries and transported to Valley Medical Center, the State Patrol said.
The driver believed to have caused the collision was arrested for investigation of vehicular assault due to driving under the influence. The exact cause of the crash remains under investigation.
According to WSP, the incident occurred as follows:
- Around 2:28 a.m. on Mar. 2, 2026, two vehicles were traveling northbound on I-5 exiting to SR 599 in Tukwila.
- One vehicle was in lane one of two on the exit ramp.
- The second vehicle was in lane two of the same ramp.
- The vehicle in lane one drifted into lane two.
- The drifting vehicle struck the vehicle traveling in lane two.
- After being struck, the second vehicle hit the Jersey barrier on the left side of the ramp.
- Both vehicles came to rest in lane two of the ramp.
The roadway was blocked for 3 hours and 37 minutes.
