A pair of shoplifting suspects were taken into custody this week after their attempted getaway ended when their car ran out of gas, according to the Tukwila Police Department.

Police said officers responded to a report of a man and woman shoplifting at Westfield Southcenter Mall. When officers arrived, they saw the two suspects getting into a vehicle and attempting to flee.

Officers said the vehicle quickly became inoperable when it ran out of fuel.

“The gas light coming on isn’t merely a suggestion to put more gas in their car,” police said in a statement.

According to police, the male suspect grabbed a bag later found to contain narcotics and tried to flee on foot.

“He too ran out of gas as officers quickly caught up to him and took him into custody,” the department said.

The female suspect was arrested without incident.

Both individuals were booked on multiple charges.
