The City of Tukwila is calling on residents to help save lives by donating blood during its next City Hall blood drive, scheduled for Friday, Aug. 15, 2025, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. in Council Chambers.

The event is organized in partnership with Bloodworks Northwest, which supplies blood to 95 percent of hospitals in Western Washington and Oregon.

“Every two seconds, someone in our community needs blood,” Bloodworks Northwest noted. “Despite 62 percent of the population being eligible to donate, only 3 percent do so regularly.”

The blood drive comes at a critical time, as hospitals face seasonal shortages during the summer. Officials say 1,000 blood donors are needed each day to maintain a safe and stable supply for trauma care, surgeries, cancer treatments, organ transplants, and more.

The process takes about an hour, with the actual donation lasting approximately 10 minutes. Donors can give blood every 56 days.

“There’s no better way to show you care than by becoming a blood donor,” organizers added. “It’s one of the simplest and most powerful ways to help someone in need.”

Appointments can be made online at BloodworksNW’s scheduling page.
