Speeders beware – your grace period is over.
Starting Wednesday, July 9, 2025, the City of Tukwila will begin issuing citations to drivers caught speeding by the automated enforcement camera installed near Codiga Park, the Tukwila Police Department announced.
The speed camera has been active for the past month, but during that time only warnings were issued — and nearly 9,000 of them.
“Of said warnings, 277 motorists were going 20-30MPH over the speed limit and 14 motorists with Fast & Furious aspirations had speeds in excess of 30-40MPH over the speed limit,” police said in a statement.
The speed camera aims to increase safety in the area near Codiga Park, a popular recreational spot.
Officials hope the transition to ticketing will deter reckless driving and reduce the number of speed-related incidents near the park.
Motorists are urged to pay attention to posted speed limits, especially in areas with high pedestrian activity.
Tukwila Police emphasized that the camera’s primary purpose is public safety, not revenue.
The exact fine amount for citations was not included in the department’s update, but ticket information will be mailed to registered vehicle owners once violations are recorded.
