A high-speed crash involving eight vehicles, including three motorcycles, shut down all lanes of northbound I-5 near Southcenter Parkway in Tukwila (map below) for nearly five hours Friday night, June 28, 2025, leaving six people injured, according to the Washington State Patrol.
Troopers said the collision began around 9:48 p.m. when a white BMW traveling at a high rate of speed struck another vehicle. The BMW spun out, striking multiple cars and causing a chain-reaction crash that involved eight vehicles in total.
Here’s how the crash happened:
- A white BMW traveling northbound on I-5 near Southcenter was speeding and struck another vehicle.
- The BMW lost control, spun out, and hit a motorcycle.
- The motorcycle rider was ejected and landed on the left shoulder.
- The BMW continued, striking a vehicle in the high occupancy vehicle lane.
- That vehicle was pushed into other lanes, striking multiple vehicles.
- In total, eight vehicles, including three motorcycles, were involved.
- Six people were injured; no fatalities were reported.
The 20-year-old driver of the BMW was transported to Valley Medical Center with injuries and is facing charges of disregarding the safety of others.
Six people were injured in the crash; none of the injuries were reported as life-threatening.
Troopers said drugs or alcohol are not suspected factors in the collision, which remains under investigation.
